The annual startup and ever changing technologies support event – Kampala Innovation Week has Thursday November 26, 2020, been officially launched in Kampala.

The event brings together young people from all walks of life to showcase their innovations and network, while interacting with other innovators all over the world.

Officiating at the launching of the event, Ms Irene Ssewankambo Kaggwa, the Managing Director Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) stated that the youths are the potential to Uganda’s diverse innovations.

“The youth are the potential of different innovations in Uganda and as government, there is need to inculcate in young people a culture of learning and research,” she said.

Ms Kaggwa also noted that the Uganda government, with the help of several stakeholders, has been at the forefront of supporting young people with innovations to embrace the ever evolving technologies.

It is with no doubt that I report to you that government has put in place many measures and technology-led programs and trainings all aimed at skilling the youth with relevant skills and knowledge so as to be able to come up with different innovations.

Now running for the 4th year in a row, the Kampala Innovation Week, aims at working on the overall guidance and coordination for scientific research, and development of the National ecosystem to reduce import dependency among others.

The event gives young people an open platform to showcase their art, skills and innovations in form of the small and medium startups in various fields of life, ecosystem, science and technology.

The 3-day event is running under the theme, “Recovery and Resilience: Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a tool for the youth.”

The event has a lineup of activities including showcase of different startups, art and crafts among others.

The organizers revealed that there will also be performances from Uganda’s top entertainers on Saturday 28, 2020, during the awarding ceremony.
