Ugandan international Henry Kalungi got off the mark for Carolina RailHawks as he scored his first goal for the club in the 3-0 victory over Atlanta Silverbacks this weekend.
Kalungi returned to RailHawks on a second loan spell from Richmond Kickers this month with a prospect of snapping a long term deal.
The victory saw RailHawks (6W-2T-5L, 20pts) extend their home unbeaten streak to 15 matches in the NASL league (USA’s second tier league).
It was also RailHawks’ first win over Atlanta in 2013 and they did so with a domineering performance. Austin da Luz, Nick Addlery and Brian Shriver scored the other goals.
“It was a great team performance all around,” RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke told the club website,” adding, “Each player stepped up when called upon and we turned in one of our best performances on the year.”
Kalungi’s goal, a header, came off a corner kick when Zack Schilawski nodded the ball back across the face of the goal mouth to the Ugandan defender’s delight.
It comes in a week another Ugandan star, the Cranes former skipper Ibrahim Sekagya, also opened his account for New York Red Bulls in their 3-0 win over Houston Dynamo in the MLS.
