Ugandan fashion designer, Abbas Kaijuka of Kai’s Divo Collections has had quite the remarkable year. After his much-acclaimed showcase back in September at the Miss Tourism with a barbie-core themed collection, he has gone on to win big in Zambia.
The celebrity stylist won two awards at the Zikomo Awards in Lusaka, Zambia, solidifying his status as a trailblazer in the African fashion scene.
Abbas scooped up the Fashion Designer of the Year, Africa” and “Costume Designer of the Year, Africa 2023” awards. These are testament to innovative designs and creative contribution to the world of not only fashion, but performing arts, film and music. His work gaining recognition in Zambia is not the first time he has been recognized on a continental level. Abbas has a number of awards from all over Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and of course here in Uganda. These two join the army of statues on his shelf that signify his contribution to the fashion arena in Uganda, and are also a testament of the progress the Ugandan fashion industry is making to cement its place on the Global scene.
Speaking after his win, the soft-spoken Abbas thanked his clients the most, as he states, they are the ones that have brought all the glory to the brand.
“These awards are evidence of how strong and loyal my clients are. Their unwavering support over the years is the cornerstone of the Kai’s Divo Collection brand and I would be no where without them. Thank you to everyone that votes, and a win for me is a win for the entire industry,” he stated.
