Fans, friends, and family of Juma Wasswa Balunywa face a frustrating start to the new week as he is denied the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) party card to represent in the upcoming Guild President Election at Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
Juma, considered one of the favourite candidates for the MUBS Guild President race, received the disappointing news during the UYD vetting exercise, the party has announced.
In an official statement from UYD, it was revealed that after careful consideration, Benedict Luswata has been selected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024-2025 Guild Election.
However, despite this setback, Juma Wasswa Balunywa has decided to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming election.
Juma Wasswa Balunywa gained enormous fame in January through social media, especially due to the efforts of his campaigning team, led by Enricho Kawooya, who created captivating campaigning songs chanting his name.
Since then, the majority has believed that he is unmatched when his name appears on the MUBS Guild President ballot paper, predicting a landslide victory for him.
The denial of the UYD party card marks a significant turn of events in what was anticipated to be a promising electoral journey for Juma Wasswa Balunywa.
Now, as an independent candidate, he faces new challenges and uncertainties in his quest for the Guild Presidency at MUBS.
