She lost her only son, Keron (RIP) sometime back. The wounds, I suppose, were healing silently, steadily. She has been going through a lot of anguish-laced moments. We all prayed for her to recover and bounce back as energetic as before. Did she disappoint us? No, she didn’t. She bounced back with Woman, this woman. What a song! What a talent! Forget the fact that it is sung entirely in English which folks think doesn’t work here, but she defies that nonsensical norm. It worked for her. It worked for me. Sit. Listen.
Woman is a song that celebrates a true Ugandan woman, an African woman. The women folk will love this, because therein lies their happiness. It reflects on what they go through. And, indeed, they go through a lot of jaded mazes to have a foothold of happiness in this rather patriarchal world. The video is impeccably amazing. And I wonder why Sasha Vybz didn’t scoop an award in the recently concluded HiPipo Music Awards. His artistic lens and magical eyes are unmatched. He was behind Woman video.
The pictorial is perfect. The camera angles are somewhat on point. The lighting gives the video such an artistic expression and Juliana looks extremely stunning in that floral, whitish dress that rolls down to her ankles. She is beautiful, that I must add. The characters in the video, the likes of Rebecca Kadaga and Miria Matemba, add ingredients to this video. Their smiles that seem to say ‘I am proud to be an African woman’. The toils and hustle and bustle they go through. Woman is a kind of video that grips you till the end and still leaves you unquenched. Much as she sings the word ‘woman’ countless times and attempts to be monotonous, it doesn’t take away the fact that it remains a good song. A soundtrack to everywoman out there living and enjoying her life. Good song. Good video!
