Ugandan super Model Judith Heard has been announced as Winnie Mandela cup’s newest Ambassador. The appointment marked on 14th April 2021 makes Judith Heard the first Ambassador from East Africa to feature on the tournament as Ambassador.
“It’s a dream come true to become a Winnie Mandela cup edition 2021 Ambassador,” said Heard. “It’s a huge honor to join such an impressive list of people who have supported Winnie Mandela cup and the Winnie Mandela foundation as a tournament and as a service project in years . I am looking forward to meeting as many Women, children and young people as I can, hearing their stories, and speaking out on their behalf.”
WINNIE MANDELA CUP is a soccer tournament dedicated to fighting against Gender based violence and support women empowerment and the Winnie Mandela foundation.
The purpose of the tournament is ‘three-fold’ – It is a programme to intensify the fight against Gender based violence (GBV).
To create a platform for economic empowerment of women. It is a gesture to honour the legacy of liberation icon Mama Winnie Mandela.
In her role as Ambassador, Judith Heard will use her global platform to help raise awareness of rights of women and issues affecting youth, such as lack of education, safe places to play and learn, and the impact of violence, and poverty. She joins a list of Ambassadors including: Human rights Activist Swati Mandela, Former Brazilian star Juliano Belletti, Award winning Actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, international actress and activist Marie Humbert.
A number of projects were announced at the official launch, which took place during international women’s month in March 2021.
On honouring Mama Winnie, the family of the iconic stalwart who also presented projects including the Winnie Mandela Memorial; as a flagship project that will benefit from the proceeds of the Tournament.
The climax of the campaign will be the national women’s soccer teams from primarily the BRICS countries and from the continent of Africa.
