The World junior 10,000 champion Joshua Cheptegei, won the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association personality of the month of July award after being unanimously chosen by the sports scribe body at the monthly meeting on Monday morning at the Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
The 18 year old Prison officer won Uganda a gold medal at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA and also become the fourth Ugandan to win a gold medal at this world championships. He followed the footsteps of previous Ugandan winners that include Boniface Kiprop, Julius Achon and Dorcus Inzikuru.
They also commended Commonwealth Marathon bronze medalist Abraham Kiplimo, Super Heavyweight boxer Mike Sekabembe, who settled for a bronze medal after being denied a chance to take a shot at gold, Eskom Open golf winner Ronald Otile and Western Region for retaining the Castle Lite Inter Region golf tournament.
