In Addis Ababa, Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei won gold at the Africa Junior Champions beating Kenya’s Davis Kiplagat and Ethiopia’s Gunessa Ferkansa to help Uganda finish 9th overall in the competition.

Joshua won Uganda’s only gold medal at the tournament when he edged his competitors in the men’s 10, 000m event final.

Suzan Aneno and Stella Chasing’s won bronze medals in the women’s 800m and 1500m respectively to prevent Uganda from being bottom of the ten country log that took part in the competition.

“It was a good outing for the junior athletes. What we wanted to do is to give them an opportunity to grow up with experience in competing. They got that and entering only six athletes and coming out in 9th position shows that we have a potential for the future,” Beatrice Ayikoru, the national athletics federation secretary told New Vision.
