Luzira: Escape from Uganda is a new movie straight out of Bollywood, shot entirely in Uganda. The movie features Leone Island boss Jose Chameleone, who is making his first appearance in an acting role in a movie that will premiere today. He explained how he got his role and what it is all about in a recent interview.
Chameleone explained that his character is called Dada. In the movie, he is a wealthy club owner dealing in diamonds business. “I play Dada, a wealthy club owner who is also doing back door diamond business, so I have partnered with a certain Indian man and I have entrusted him to sell my $9m worth diamond stones and bring me the money. Unfortunately he disappears and I want my stones,” he said.
Asked how he managed to get his first time acting role, the Wale Wale singer said that he had no intentions of acting during his first meeting with the producers but ended up getting a role.
He said: “Initially Mr Girisch Nair called me for a meeting at Kampala Serena Hotel but the meeting was not to offer me an acting role. He was asking me to do soundtracks for the movie, but upon meeting he realized something that I had never seen in me. He asked if I could act, and I told him I had never acted and I asked him why he thought I could. He said, first my voice is good enough for a movie and that my look and character could be useful in a movie, so he promised to get back to me as soon as he got a role I could fit in. A few weeks later he got back to me and to be frank, I was excited and I am still excited because I cannot wait to see myself on screen.”
Movie Plot:
The lives of a middle class Indian family living in Kampala are thrown into turmoil when the housewife finds herself embroiled in a murder plot. Shika Samuel (played by Indian National Award winner Rima Kallingal) pursues her hobby of fashion design and opens a boutique at Garden City Mall.
She suddenly falls prey to a conspiracy and is faced with the double murder charge of her close friend Angel Mathews (Indian Star, Tashu) and the Mayor’s daughter, Audrey (played by Miss Uganda 2013 1st Runner up Anita Kyarimpa). Husband, Jay Krishnan (Vijaay Babu) attempts to secure her release from Luzira Maximum Security Prison where she’s being tortured that is orchestrated by a well-wisher (Award Winning Tamil star Partiban) from the Indian community.
The film essentially revolves around her attempt to escape from prison and from Uganda.
