John Blaq recently opened up about a difficult period in his life when he battled severe depression.
The artist revealed that his struggles began in 2019, soon after a successful concert. Despite the success of the event, the aftermath brought unexpected challenges that took a toll on his mental health.
According to John Blaq, he was at the height of his music career when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, shutting down the entertainment industry for nearly two years.
Like many musicians, he faced a challenging time financially, eventually exhausting his savings and finding himself bankrupt.

“I underwent a severe depression in 2019 and the time during the lockdown,” John Blaq shared. “My concert had just ended, and although it was successful, the money that I got from it couldn’t sustain me in the lockdown.”
The singer explained that the situation pushed him to the brink, and he credits his faith for helping him avoid a deeper descent into despair.
“It was only God that kept me going,” he said, reflecting on how close he was to turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms during the bleak period. “Otherwise, people would have heard that I succumbed to drugs or maybe got hit by a car.”
John Blaq has since chosen to use his experience as a lesson for others. He encouraged those going through tough times to hold onto hope and seek solace in their faith. In his words, hard times never last, and with resilience and belief, anyone can find the strength to keep going.
