Joan Rivers may have been still alive today if she would have been in a hospital. According to TMZ, a doctor performed an outpatient procedure on the Fashion Police co-host, that needed to be done in a hospital setting.
The outpatient surgery is apparently what led up to Rivers death according to a new report, by NY Daily News. During the comedian’s routine endoscopy doctors found something on her vocal cords, turning her surgery deadly when another doctor, who arrived at the clinic with Rivers entourage performed an unplanned biopsy
Rivers went to the Yorkville Endoscopy, that regularly sees patients with digestive issues, where her vocal chords jammed, which is called “laryngospasm – cutting off her air supply,” the source explained.
“A biopsy like that should only be done in a hospital setting,” the source stated.
“If she had been in a hospital when it happened, she might have been okay,” they added.
The doctor that performed the deadly procedure was identified as an ear, nose and throat specialist. NY Daily News revealed that the doctor “asked if he could use their instruments when the clinic’s doctor noticed “something” on Rivers’ vocal chords.”
“He asked and they let him,” the source claims. “A huge no-no.”
The source said that Rivers only signed off on an endoscopy, nothing more, not even a biopsy of her vocal chords.
A representative for Rivers has refused to comment. A spokeswoman for Yorkville Endoscopy says that they are not allowed to comment because of patient confidentiality laws.
TMZ says that Rivers heart stopped, when the medical team tried to resuscitate her.
The legendary star never recovered, slipped into a coma, and died a few days later.
