Uganda Cranes yesterday booked a spot in the finals at the ongoing 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup when they edged hosts Ethiopia 5-3 on penalties following a goalless draw after 120 minutes of play.
Uganda’s progression to the final implied that they will face off with Rwanda who had earlier taken the first slot in the final when they edged Sudan 4-2 on penalties following a one-all draw after 120 minutes.
In a post-match interview, Cranes coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic applauded his boys for the hard work and persistence exhibited in the game.
“I thank our boys for the hard work. We did our best and now we just have to prepare for the final. We however have to avoid sitting back celebrating today’s win because there is no time for that,” Micho remarked.
When asked about Saturday’s finals against Rwanda, the former Amavubi Stars coach said, “It can go either way. We just have to prepare very well for the game because there is only one day for resting and organize at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Rwanda’s head coach, Johnny McKinstry complained after their semi-final tie against Sudan that he wished the final would played on Sunday.
In an interview with SuperSport shortly after the match, Johnny said “it’s too bad the final is on Saturday which almost gives us no time to rest. I wish it had been put to Sunday.”
