She announced herself with Stay With Me. Have you listened to the track? Jesus! For the most part, the strumming of the guitar in the background is just enough to make you appreciate the talents of this girl. And her voice; melodic and smooth. There was a certain unseen feeling hovering over this song; lamentations of a lover crying for her better half to stay with her. If he didn’t, after all the endless pleas, he must have been a paranoid man.
Yet again, Amaru came back with Crashing. It is a chip off the old block of Stay With Me. Smooth and sweet on the ear as hell. On the track, she features the talents of Ruyonga. But let’s first polish off her contribution on this largely unappreciated song. The New York City based chanteuse shows her musical prowess on this; she could be the queen of acoustics. The song opens up with the strings of the guitar being pulled magically, as Amaru croons silently, humming to the darned song and off to the races, she goes; unstoppable.
Amaru found solace in love songs and her song writing skills are impeccable. I have listened to most of her songs and, avoiding to sound corny and using unnecessary superlatives, she is the real deal, if I can borrow that pretentious tired line. Amidst, Ruyonga falls in and does what Ru has been doing for quite some time now. Crashing is a kind of ballad you listen to, shutting the world around you, and if your life is headed south, you will be surprised by how fast it can head up in a split instant. Sweet song!
