SC Villa’s away fixture against FUS Rabat is one that players and fans will want to forget as soon as possible following their side’s 7-0 thumping by the Moroccan side in the first leg of the second round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Jogoo’s left back Isaac Muleme however blames it on the bad weather and inexperience that cost them so much on such an important day in their club’s continent football history.
“First we are bogged down by the extremely cold winter in Rabat and then the issue of partial referees (from Egypt) set in. That said, our biggest drawback was inexperience of most of the players in our team,” Muleme told a local newspaper, the Daily Monitor.
Villa conceded three goals in the first half of the game before swallowing another four in the second as they faced off with the 2010 champions of the continental tournament in game where the Blues’ back four composed of team skipper Jonathan Mugabi, Misi Katende, Isaac Muleme, and Henry Katongole with Nicholas Ssebwato in goal failed their test.
The Jogoos now have pride left to play for when the two sides meet again in the return leg at Namboole in two weeks’ time.
“We failed to convert the three clear cut chances we got in Rabat that should have bridged the gap but we have a chance to exert our revenge at Namboole.”
