Today we assess female diva Iryn Namubiru in our weekly dissect of Sinking or Shining. Iryn started her music career way back with fellow diva Juliana Kanyomozi in the then I-Jay group and she has since managed to stay relevant in the music industry even after the group broke up.
Iryn then pursued a solo career. “Nkuwe ki” was her break through hit and this was followed with more good songs such as Yoono, Begombe ko, Birowoozo that all enjoyed ample air play on all local radio stations. Iryn has won a number of accolades among which was the artiste of the year award in the PAM awards.
With her soothing voice she has won the hearts and love of many Ugandans.
Early this year Iryn faced a lot of setbacks in her career. From her divorce with her husband Morel to her arrest in Japan over drug trafficking. She was detained for a few days before she was left to go free. Her father passed on a week after her release.
Just like the death of the Bachwezi’s beloved cow Bihogo, Iryn’s final blow was her flopped Africana concert. This did not only leave Iryn devastated but also in huge debts. She has not held any major concerts since then.
Is Iryn Namubiru sinking or shining?
