Interview: Singer Rhona Salme talks about her musical journey

Rhona is one of the talented singers Uganda has in the industry at the moment, BigEye Ug caught up with her recently for a quick chat and here are the expects

Who’s Rhona Salme?

Rhona Salme real names Namagembe Rhona, born 1990 February 14th is a Uganda singer signed under Hyve Records. Iam a versatile artist and I  do almost every music genre

When did you start singing?

I grew up a singer, singing in my school choir, even after school though I wasn’t taking it serious until 2015 when I decided to make it my profession

How many songs have you recorded sofar?

I have so far recorded 3 songs since 2015, I started with Akagoma which was produced by one of the best producers, Ron Da Don and later I dropped Am in love produced by still Ron Da Don and my recent one Teri Akusinga produced by Dr Phiizol

When did you join hyve records

I was signed under Hyve records early this year, and it is one of the greatest turning points in my carrier

What’s your relationship with Dro Hyve

I am just under the record label Hyve Records and he is the CEO and director, there is nothing more.

Have you worked with any artiste yet?

I havn’t worked with any yet but together with my management, we are working on a few projects with a couple of top singers in the industry

Which local artiste would you love to work with

Kemishian, he has a unique style and I believe if we come up with something, it can suit my style and definitely  becoming a mega hit

What inspired you to start up singing?

The Late Aliyah inspired me, I loved her voice and conduct, I grew up listening to her and always wanted to be like her. And on the local scene, I look up to Irene Ntale, she is a great singer and she inspires me a lot

Have you had challenges in the industry?

Yes, the biggest challenge is Air play from media, presenters want money to play songs, and also publicity is expensive yet it’s vital in a career like mine

 

What is the biggest stage you have ever performed at ?

Namboole stadium, during a football match for Uganda Cranes, I cheered up the whole stadium and I loved the atmosphere

 

What’s you biggest achievement so far in your carrier

I have met a lot important people, made friends, travelled to different countries because of music.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5?

I see myself as one of the biggest Female artist in Est African region and with a couple of accolades and also helping struggling talented upcoming artistes to also make it in the industry

 What are you favorite songs at the moment

There are a lot of great songs right now, but He go down by Irene Ntale, Musawo by Winnie Nwagi, I am still here by Julliana, Big Bumper by Mun G, Juice Wa Mango Rema Namakula, work for me
