We caught up with Bryan Morel, Angella Katatumba’s Promotions Manager and a rising music publicist, and he shares with us his journey navigating the local entertainment scene.
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
A: My name is Bryan Morel Muhumuza. I’m a Leo. Short and friendly orator. Anything that comes affirmative is an opportunity to me.
Q: What is it exactly that you do?
A: I am apparently pursuing PR for various indigenous musicians. Apparently, I am coordinating DIVA AWARDS AFRIKA mechanisms both in Kampala and Kigali, Rwanda.
I am also Singer Angella Katatumba’s Promotions Manager and Personal Assistant, Publicist for Fashion Designer Hellen Lukoma.
I also script concert proposals and work plans for artistes and different NGOs.
Q: Take us through a brief background of Bryan into limelight and entertainment business?
A: I started off in 2012 while I was doing voluntary publicity for Iryn Namubiru as a loyal fan on social media… You know those things of cyber fan-star noise.
It is then that Qute Kaye and Undugu Band spotted my work and employed me as the Marketing Officer for the band. I didn’t like the reception of the band’s spectating audience. Makindye was a small place.
I then hooked up with Singer Nick Nola and we released Maama Album in mid-2014. We happened to get a nod in Zzina Awards for inspirational Song Category for his Maama song.
In May, 2014 I partnered with Jackie Chandiru to work as her Personal Assistant. I think you still see the reception with her Wotuuse video. I premiered that song with the sponsorship of NBS TV, Tusker Lager and Club Ambiance.
Q: Who is your favorite local musician(s)?
A: I would say Iryn Namubiru. She’s impulsive both in voice-synthesis and general musicianship. And may be Hum Kay. His voice has an exceptional stereo, hi-fi and cassette strength. He is a gospel artiste that preaches to all the world.
Q: Who is your favorite international artiste(s)?
A: This is tricky in bits. I always study the voice part of it in any music sound. Then that’s R.Kelly, Jennifer Hudson and George Huff. But then, modernity has given birth to all breeds. Don’t you watch Nick Minaji, Lady Gaga and Jason Derulo???? They have tilted what we know as roots to what they call creativity. And we enjoy it. Even dancers Yanis Marshall and Marie Antoneitte.
Q: You were working for Jackie Chandiru. What happened?
A: I knew you couldn’t forget to ask. Jackie is busy working on new albums. I’m also busy doing independent work. It was great working with that creative post Blu*3 star. Did I answer you right? Ooooppss!
Q: Tell us about your work journal with Angella Katatumba?
A: All good. Angella is a friend. She loves to sing and she is passionate about life. Her experiences inspire a lot.
She listens and will call me many times to accomplish goals of the day. We are that determined.
Q: Your Future Prospects?
A: I have a lot in cylinders. I want to register my company, Empire Talent Management. It will have arms; Public Relations, Talent Development, Personal Assistance and Management.
I want to change the interface of Uganda’s entertainment industry. I want to revive the art of dance. I want to sign up dancers and all fab personas you watch Beyoncé and Hurricane Chris do in videos.
I also want to join the radio industry in a few months. I want to promote my artiste(s) till we get a nod at the Grammy’s.
Q: Your inspiration?
A: At first, it was hard for me to decide who I look up to since I’m involved in a diversified entertainment latitude. I would say Steve Jean of Fenon Music warehouse since everybody here knows him. He’s a musician, essayist, Playwright, manager, choreographer, and dancer. We share a lot in common even outside music. He’s assiduous.
Q: Any last words?
A: Hey, am drown in oration. I don’t know how to sum up. Thanks for a great journal work in this competitive entertainment industry. Let everybody warm up for Bryan Morel. I have never given up. I have a lots of plans to stoutly act on all opportunities.
