Karitas KarisimbiBy Our Reporter

If there is one multimedia platform where presenters grow from their debut to retirement, it is radio.

This week, we sat down with Uganda’s undisputed Queen of Late Night Radio, Karitas Karisimbi, to catch up on her recent transition to Next Radio’s “Night Shift”.

Many in the radio audience welcomed her move, and social media remains abuzz with praises of how great she is doing at it.

1. How do you feel about transitioning from morning to night radio? Is this the first time you’re doing night radio?

No, I started my radio career on night radio on Radio Sanyu. I have done afternoon and then morning all the way. Just know the Askari is back better and matured. I have so much to share at night, from my life experiences to other things.

2. How do you feel about “Night Shift” so far?

I love every experience of the night radio. I love listening to people’s issues, discussing them, and sharing my views. Every individual is going through something and me talking about it on the radio sheds some light on them.

3. Did you ever think you would be back on the night radio?

Yes. I had gotten to the point where I felt I needed to switch to night radio. One last lap on the night radio before I say goodbye. This won’t be anytime soon, but you have to plan regardless.

4. How is “Night Shift”, and what is the craziest thing you’ve heard on the show?

Night Shift is fantastic. It’s real, and there are times when I have certain guests, and we get to discuss things we can’t discuss on morning radio or even radio at all. I can’t pick a story because all of them are crazy, depending on the angle you’re looking at it.

5. Last but not least, have you ever thought of making your relationship public? If not, why not? If yes, what are you waiting for?

I have made my relationship with God public, and this is the only relationship. On a serious note, I’m as single as they come, and I’m a lover of public display of affection; if I were in a relationship, I’d be seen because of this.

Karitas is an experienced media personality, mostly remembered for her hugely successful stint as host of the then-famous `Showtime Magazine’ on WBS TV in the early 2000s.

Karitas joined Next Radio in 2018 as a Transit Co-host with Ronnie McVex and later moved onto the Morning Zoo co-hosting with fellow veteran Marcus Kwikiriza. Karitas has been on an upward spiral with her radio career. Recently, Next Radio relaunched and saw Nalongo, as she is popularly known, the Night Shift.

Night Shift happens every day from 8:00 PM to midnight on 106.1 Next Radio. You can stream it using the Afro Mobile App, available on both IOS and Android.
