When you sit back and listen to the background of BET award winner, musician Eddy Kenzo, you realise that he is truly a definition of from “zero to hero”.
Prior to his first ever show in neighbouring Kenya, Eddy Kenzo was hosted on Citizen TV, Kenya where he unfolded part of his struggle to success.
In a very emotional interview, the “Soraye” singer told media how he struggled through school being his own father, mother and grandpa.
“My father was an Askari – those who open gates. I used to dress like those kids you see dancing on streets. I was the father, mother and grandpa of my self. My mother died when I was very young, she was a Rwandan but I was a good footballer.”
Asked about the BET award, Kenzo asserted that it shocked him but he really deserved it because he worked tirelessly for it.
“BET was a surprise to me but had really worked hard for it.”
