Ugandan comedians have started reaping big from an industry that was at first associated with losers and time wasters. From big comedy stars like Anne Kansiime and Salvado who have managed to export Ugandan comedy to the world, to young upcoming comedians, the sky can only be the limit.
Speaking about his comedy journey recently, comedian Prince Ehmah Napoleone revealed that he built a house for his mother in the village from comedy.
The 29-year-old who was raised by a single mother and later became a street kid who roamed the dusty roads of Kabalagala, Nsambya, Kamwanyi, Kibuli and Kisenyi said that building a house for his mother is one of the biggest achievements that he has received from his Comedy Career.
“I built a house for my mum in Soroti. Our house was so dilapidated. When I started earning, I joined hands with my mum and we built a big house. I have managed to help my young brothers through school. I have also been able to give myself a relatively descent life as well as meeting great friends and people,” Prince stated.
He however noted that it has not been a rosy journey to the top. “People’s tendency to fail to take us seriously. They think we are joking all the time even when we are serious. The other challenge is that people want our services but want to pay less just because comedians are not as big as musicians.”
We will keep you posted.
