Huawei partners with MTN to give Laptops and School Bags to Kireka Barracks School

Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider partnered with MTN Uganda to give laptops and schoolbags to pupils of Kireka Barracks School located in Kireka, a suburb of Kampala.

This patnership is in relation to the ongoing 11th edition of MTN’s 21 Days of Yello Care initiative; a staff volunteerism project that aims to continue driving access to education, particularly through the digitalization of teaching and learning in the countries in which MTN operates. This year the project is running under the theme “Investing in Education for All”.

The Huawei team joined MTN staff to take part in the various community activities that were being carried out at the school such as cleaning, painting, renovation and eating lunch with the students.

Mr. Hao Wen, the Huawei MTN Account Group Director noted that:”In this regard, Huawei and MTN have jointly given to Kireka Barracks School laptops and School bags worth 10,000,000UGX to the teachers and pupils to aid in administrative work, computer skills transfer and welfare of the children.”

In response to this, Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte, the MTN CEO thanked Huawei in particular for its contribution that is going to make a difference in the lives of the children of the school.

“Thank you so much our partners for the giving to this cause, which shows the spirit of giving back to the community as corporates who want to bring a change in the lives of Ugandans. Today I pledge that the 21 days of Yello Care is not the end, but a beginning of a continuous commitment from MTN and its partners to really contribute and invest in the education of this country,” he added.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police Mr. Asan Kasingye, who is also the Chief Guest commended MTN and its partners for investing in Education because it was a way of making the future of the children brighter than the days he went to school.

The School also received a donation of a renovated classroom blocks, text books, food stuffs, plates and cups, cleaning equipment and 40 three seater desks from MTN Uganda.
