While a woman is no prize to be won, winning a girl over emotionally can be a daunting, seemingly impossible task. Your appearance, confidence, and demeanor will play undetermined yet pivotal roles in your game-play, to which you’ll have no idea how much of one is required. All of these traits, however, pale in comparison your communication skills. So you best work on your charm, dudes!
If you ever need to destroy your relationship, you can do it in as little as 10 words! Here are a few suggestions below of what to say to do so; or, of course, if you’re looking to preserve your relationship, of what NOT to say.
Pick-Up Lines
As a sex and relationships writer, I’ve spoken about the effectiveness of pick-up lines quite a bit. More often than not, no matter who I’m speaking to (pick-up artist, porn star, relationship expert, etc.), I receive the same answer: a pick-up line is only effective if it’s delivered in a joking manner. This means a pick-up line should be intentionally cheesy, clever, and followed with a laugh – that way she’ll be laughing with you, not at you. But that doesn’t mean everything is a slam dunk; a cheesy line is still a cheesy line.
What not to say:
“My name is [your name], but you can call me ‘tonight.’”
“Do you have WiFi? Because I’m getting a strong connection.”
“Want to have good sex?” [She says no] “Then come to my place!”
First Date
Whether you want to see it this way or not, a first date is a lot like a job interview. And the more you like a girl, the more the date will feel like an interview for your dream job, which can be horrifying. You’re going to be nervous, that’s a given, and embarrassing quips might slip that you wish hadn’t.
What not to say:
“You’re not a feminist are you? Because I’m all for – “ (continues to ramble until wine is projected and date storms out of restaurant to tweet offensive slights against men)
“I’m curious, do you have sex on the first date?”
“How many other dudes have you slept with from Tinder?”
Before Sex
The moments leading toward sex are incredibly important in determining how your forthcoming romp will be received. Say the wrong thing and the intimacy you’ve been building toward all night will crumble; she’ll take a cab home, and you’ll be at home alone.
What not to say:
“Let’s keep these sheets clean. There’s a toga party tomorrow.”
“Sorry, what’s your name again?” [She answers] “Right…that’s what I thought.”
“Saddle up and take a ride on the bologna pony!”
During Sex
What you’re saying during sex could be the difference in her reaching orgasm, or not coming close. You see, for men, sex is mostly physical, and that’s just not the case for women. While your sexing technique does play an important factor in a toe-curling experience, you’re also going to have to sweep her off her feet with charm. It’s challenging, but totally worth it.
What not to say:
“Please, I beg of you: keep your teeth to yourself.”
“We should probably finish up; your cab should be here.”
After Sex
After the sex has been had (whether good or bad), all sexual conversation should end. Done. Sex isn’t like the movies, where the man flips off the woman and they both compliment each other on how great they were during those heavily vignetted sex scenes set to a Michael Bolton track. After sex is cuddles, then sleep.
What not to say:
“So what do you say: the same time next week?”
“Say hi to my mom on your way out, please.”
“You’re one of the best people I’ve ever slept with.”
Dinner With Her Parents
When you’re off to dinner with her parents, you’re relationship is getting pretty serious – needless to say, she likes you a lot. Now it’s your duty to make sure her parents like you as much as she does. It’s adult show-and-tell, essentially, and you’re the boy toy she wants to show to the class.
What not to say:
“I can see where [girlfriend’s name] got her fantastic ass! Kudos!”
“Your daughter showed me how flexible a person can be.”
“I have absolutely no intentions whatsoever of marrying your daughter.”
Hanging With Her Friends
Like with her parents, you’re best off to make sure her friends like you. Because when she’s not out with you, she’ll be out with these ladies, and no matter how much she loves you, these women can effectively influence her in the pursuit of your relationship. Gossip bad. Gossip very bad!
What not to say:
“I wish I would have dated one of you instead.”
