You probably know of that one person that is synonymous with a particular dress code, or has a liking to a particular item in their outfit. It could be an accessory, or particular way of wearing something. And that in the long run becomes their dress code. Take for instance the likes of Jacob Oulanya and his bow ties, Timothy Bukumunhe and his caps or Moze Radio and his wristbands.
So, you could also be out there and want to create a signature look for yourself but don’t know how. Here are few ideas on how to set your signature look. You may not only be creating your own signature look, but eventually turn into a trend setter!
Work around your personality.
Obviously, your look says a lot about your personality. So in order to create a signature look, you will need to start by working around this. If you are the athletic type, then you will be thinking hoodies, joggers, etc for your signature look. If you are the girly kind of person, then chic prints like floral and mixed prints is just what you need. If you are the intellect kind, that loves to command respect with your look, then a bow tie will work just perfectly to complete your formal signature look. Add some play though, by having the bow ties in a variety.
Be Comfortable.
Comfort is key. Don’t try to make skinny jeans your signature look and yet you don’t feel comfortable in them. Being a signature look, means you will have on these skinnies most of the time. So go for comfort. That will help with your poise, making it easy for you to work the look around.
Try tailoring.
A signature look is very hard to pull off, especially since you will need to look out for pieces that are very different from what the rest of the population will be wearing. So this is why you may need to consider tailoring. If you want to have waist coast as your signature item, then instead of buying the already made one, have a local designer tailor you a few unique pieces.
Styling tricks.
Make use of the many styling tricks like layering, color blocking, and mixing prints and fabrics to create your signature look. You can also play around with numerous accessories like custom made caps, blazers, scarfs and even jewelry to stamp your signature look.
