Happy international sushi day! The 18th of June is the official day to celebrate one of the most favored cuisines around the world. Sushi is always ranked among the top 5 takeout food, with about 61,000 restaurants globally.
To celebrate, HelloFood ranked countries to see who loves it the most, as well as the most popular dishes. It’s definitely not ‘fugu’, the deadliest sushi of all. To be certified to work with it, chefs must undergo a rigorous training including eating their finished product, and yes, there have been deaths during the final exams. Ron Kawamara, Managing Director of Hellofood Uganda, said: “we have two Sushi restaurants on our platform, Yujoand Sake Japanese restaurants and they are very successful. This is a testament that people in Kampala are curious and eager to try all kinds of cuisines. But also, at these restaurants, you can have some of the best Sushi in the world. Sushi is most definitely above the average in terms of price and for good reason, because most ingredients have to be imported. So customers understand they are paying for a quality meal.”
