Halima Namakula Shares Why She Commands Respect in Uganda’s Entertainment Industry

Veteran Ugandan singer Halima Namakula has opened up about why she remains highly respected in the entertainment industry, even after over 20 years of being in the spotlight.

Despite the influx of younger artists, Namakula continues to serve as a role model, with many upcoming musicians seeking her guidance not only about music but also life in general.

Namakula’s influence extends beyond the music scene, as she is frequently invited to traditional ceremonies where she speaks to young girls.

She attributes her lasting relevance to her commitment to maintaining high standards for herself—something she believes sets her apart from other musicians of her generation.

Unlike some older artists who may have stepped away from the industry to focus on personal matters, Namakula continues to engage with the younger generation. She notes that bridging the generational gap is no easy feat, particularly for older women like herself.

To remain connected with younger people, Namakula believes it’s important to understand their world and live their experiences, which requires constant adaptation.

As a grandmother, she also faces the challenge of keeping up with modern technology while balancing her traditional values. This dual approach—remaining current while staying true to her roots—has helped her stay relevant in an ever-changing industry.

“I always set high standards for myself, and I think that’s why I’m respected so much. It’s not easy for people like us to catch up with the young generation because a lot has changed,” she shared.
