Grace Nakimera, once celebrated as one of Uganda’s finest female singers, has undergone a profound transformation from secular music to gospel, firmly declaring her commitment to her newfound faith.

Renowned for hits like “Sexy,” “Kawonawo,” and “Anfukula,” Nakimera’s decision to walk away from her past success reflects a remarkable journey of spiritual renewal.

In a recent interview, Nakimera affirmed that her days of performing secular songs are firmly behind her. Despite the allure of financial gain, she remains resolute in her devotion to gospel music, emphasizing that no sum of money could entice her back to her former repertoire.

Her spiritual awakening, she revealed, has led her to find solace and purpose in the teachings of Pastor Tom Mugerwa at Mutundwe Christian Fellowship center.

Reflecting on her past work, Nakimera admitted to occasionally revisiting her old music and questioning the motivations behind her lyrics.

However, she harbors no regrets, recognizing that her journey, albeit unconventional, was guided by a higher purpose. Her unwavering commitment to her faith is evident as she unequivocally states that any collaboration with secular artists would only be considered if the song glorifies Jesus.

I’m now a woman serving the Almighty God. I don’t miss singing in bars and clubs because I’m in a better place. If anyone offered me lots of money to perform my old songs, I don’t think I can accept it. I no longer accept money from sin. Besides, my God provides abundantly for me.

When asked about her stance on her child potentially pursuing a secular music career, Nakimera emphasized the importance of providing guidance while respecting their autonomy.

She acknowledges that ultimately, the decision lies with her child, echoing her belief in the individual’s right to choose their own path.
