It was a tense evening as 20 contestants set out to battle for the Miss Kampala Royale 2015 crown. Held at a red carpet ceremony at Kampala Serena Hotel, it attracted a host of Kampalans who turned up to witness the crowning of the city’s ambassador.
The beauty queens kicked off the evening with a dance routine, wiggling their ways into the hearts of revellers who cheered on enthusiastically after the dynamic performance. The night would get more exciting from there on as the clock slowly ticked away to the crowning moment.
The contestants’ knowledge of the city was also checked by the judges who bombarded them with random questions about Kampala. In between, they also showcased their talents which ranged from dancing, to singing, to poetry, name it in a bid to impress the judges and win their favor.
But as it later turned out, contestant no. 17, Grace Gashumba was the one who had charmed the judges as she was ultimately crowned the Miss Kampala Royale 2015 winner. She had previously been named Miss Kampala Photogenic.
Meanwhile, moments before she was crowned winner, Grace threw the crowd into panic after she collapsed on stage. It was a frantic sight as organisers rushed in to offer first aid, and luckily enough, all it took was a sip on a bottle of water to revive her. And she was back up to her position, striking a pose with a smile etched on her face like nothing had happened.
Grace was rewarded with a brand new car and will also get an all-expense paid trip to India to meet Miss World among other benefits.
Nakiwu Victoria was the first runner up and second runner up was Kaliisa Priscilla.
Other winners were; Jenny Kembabazi – Miss Kampala Smile, Tendo Sandra – Miss Kampala Catwalk, Doreen Lwantale – Miss Kampala Congeniality, and Saidat Nantumbwe – Miss Kampala Bold and Beauty.
The evening was hosted by local comedian Ronnie McVex who lit up the evening with his humour alongside his co-emcee Radio City’s Lady Peace.
