Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have finally named Bobby Williamson’s replacement at the helm of the club’s coach staff as Frank Nuttall. Having led them to their first home title in 18 years, the Scottish born landed himself a mega contract when he was appointed new head coach of the Kenyan national team, “Harambee stars”. The Scot has been replaced by a fellow Scot Briton Frank Nuttall.
Nuttall was unveiled to the Kenyan press by K’Ogalo officials this week on Wednesday and given a three month contract till the end of the current season which left him as the most paid technician in the Kenyan Premier League. Nuttall will be earning Kshs600,000 during his short term of service at the club. His contract has a possibility of being renewed based on his performance after his first short spell.
Nuttall’s appointment is said to come after a recommendation by Bobby Williamson. Nuttall will be assisted by Frank Ouna and the experienced Bobby Ogolla. The 46 year old Scot is well aware of the pressure that comes with managing Gor Mahia and says he is the right man for the job.
“I am confident I am the right man to help the team achieve its goals,” Nuttall told the press on his unveiling. “I am used to pressure and I am confident it will not be any different here at Gor Mahia.”
Nuttall continued to express his optimism in his ability to help the club retain the championship they won last season for the first time in 18 years under the charges of Williamson. “I had heard of Gor as one of the biggest clubs in the country and handling it comes with challenges that I’m prepared for,” he said.
Nuttall is a former player with Al Nasr football club and also played for Scottish giants Celtic between 1995 and 1997 who has also previously worked with the Chinas national soccer team.
