Google+ Users Get an Automatic Year-in-Review Video

If you’re a user of Google’s social network, there’s no need to sift through photos and videos to pull out highlights from your 2013. Google+ is doing it for you, care of its Auto Awesome feature.

Users who actively uploaded photos and videos throughout the year are being rewarded with a short slideshow that pulls from their photo and video gallery on Google+. The videos are roughly a minute long, and have been sent out to users over the past week.

The videos can be shared publicly on Google+, or kept private. The year in review montages are also set to music selected by the Auto Awesome feature.

This is the first year Google+ has done an Auto Awesome year in review, and a spokesperson declined to share specific numbers on how many users will receive the videos. Only “active Google Photos” users with “enough content” uploaded to the site throughout the year would be sent the videos.

These Google+ videos are similar to the year in review timelines compiled by Facebook. This was the second year that Facebook automatically pulled together the top 20 posts and life moments from users into a shareable timeline.

This isn’t the first time Auto Awesome was put to work around the holidays. Earlier in December, Auto Awesome added flare to users’ holiday photos. Images that showed snow were edited so that it looked like snow was actually falling in the photo; images showing holiday items like Christmas lights or burning candles were edited so the image actually twinkled.
