Google plans to take on the URL domain registration sector with a new service of its own.
Google Domains is currently in testing and is aimed at small businesses by invite-only.
The search engine giant has made it clear that web hosting is not part of the service, but is directing users to Squarespace, Wix, Weebly and Shopify if they wish to build a website.
“We’re beginning to invite a small number of people to kick the tires on Google Domains, a domain registration service we’re in the process of building,” Google announced in a Google+ post.
“Businesses will be able to search, find, purchase and transfer the best domain for their business – whether it’s .com, .biz, .org, or any of the wide range of new domains that are being released to the web.”
With Google Domains, customers can keep their details private at no extra cost and can get phone and email support, Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm EST.
