The Gong DJ Academy held its first graduation ceremony on Saturday. Hosted at their offices in Kisasi, the academy passed out a total of 13 students.
The students were awarded with certificates of Merit after they successfully completed a beginners/basic short course in the art of Deejaying.
The ceremony was presided over by renowned disc jokey, DJ Mark, who is also alumni of the Academy. He cautioned the fresh deejays against being taken up by the fame that comes with the job and advised them to always play to please their audience.
“Always remember you’re an entertainer, and give the people what they want to listen to,” DJ Mark told the graduating class.
SSali Emma James, the Academy’s Head Instructor, revealed that the academy aims to professionalize the industry and also build respect for the art of deejaying.
“We want people to realize that deejaying is like any other profession and deejays also study to become what they are,” he said.
“We want to make deejaying a respectable job and more recognized as an art.” He added.
The deejaying course lasts one month after which students are offered opportunities to practice alongside seasoned deejays for close to a year before they are finally certified.
