Celebrated Ugandan rapper GNL Zamba has called on fellow artists to stop speaking negatively about the financial side of hip hop music in Uganda.

The “Dear Hip Hop” star expressed concern over what he sees as growing disrespect for the genre by some rappers who claim to represent it.
He believes such comments harm the culture and discourage upcoming artists.
“I don’t know how you can say that we don’t make money from this genre,” GNL Zamba said. “If you are truly part of the culture, then speak positively and help it grow.”

GNL Zamba is widely known as one of the pioneers of Lugaflow, a style of rap performed in Luganda.
Over the years, he has played a major role in building the local hip hop scene and turning it into a recognized and respected part of Uganda’s music industry.
He reminded fellow rappers that hip hop has provided many opportunities for artists across the country, including live shows, brand deals, and global recognition.
“Instead of focusing on the challenges, let’s talk about the wins and inspire others to join and invest in our culture,” he added.
GNL Zamba’s message comes at a time when some Ugandan rappers have publicly expressed frustration about the low earnings from hip hop music.
However, Zamba’s words aim to shift the narrative and restore pride in the genre.
