Geosteady has pushed back against claims by fellow musician Bebe Cool that concerts charging as little as Shs20,000 for entry are not profitable, arguing that the financial value of a show goes beyond ticket sales.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Geosteady explained that while ticket revenue is an important part of organising a concert, artists can benefit even more from the performance opportunities and bookings that follow a successful show.
“Money is given to you when staging the concert, but me personally, I look beyond that. I look at the incoming bookings and shows which come after that. It is where the profit comes from and whoever says there are no profits is just unaware,” he said.
Geosteady believes affordable concerts can give artists an opportunity to reconnect with their fans, maintain their relevance and demonstrate their ability to attract crowds. He argues that the exposure generated from such shows can translate into more bookings and better-paying performances after the main concert.
His remarks come amid an ongoing debate within Uganda’s music industry over the profitability of concerts, with some artists and industry players questioning whether low ticket prices can cover the costs involved in staging major shows.
