He also extended an invitation for the band to explore Uganda’s natural wonders, particularly its national parks, in the future. The General extended gratitude to the organizers of the concert for bringing such renowned talent to the country.
“Today, it was my pleasure to meet members of the world-famous band, UB40. I wished them a successful performance in Kampala tomorrow and encouraged them to return to visit some of our national parks next time. I thank the organisers of the concert,” Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s tweet reads.
The event, themed “Nobody Can Stop Reggae,” is organized by Next Media Services Company and is set to take place at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The arrival of UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell, comprising a full ensemble of 20 members led by Ali Campbell himself, was met with excitement as they touched down at Entebbe International Airport in the early hours of Friday.
Talent Africa C.E.O Aly Alibhai, along with NBS partners Joel Kigozi and Douglas Lwanga, played pivotal roles in welcoming the band upon their arrival. Their presence at the airport marked the beginning of what promises to be a memorable musical journey for both the band and Ugandan music enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, local Ugandan artists, including Rema Namakula, Bebe Cool, Vampino, Weasel, Navio, Abeeka Band, Vinka, Party Pipo, and Don Naselow, among others, have been diligently preparing for the event.
Excitement permeates the air as they undergo sound checks and rehearsals, eager to share the stage with UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell.
A brief background on UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell reveals the band’s rich history. Ali Campbell, a founding member and lead singer of UB40, departed from the original lineup in 2008 due to management issues. Alongside Astro, another former member, Ali embarked on a remarkable journey, releasing three new albums and capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide. Tragically, Astro passed away in November 2021, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable music.
As UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell prepares to grace Kampala with their presence, anticipation mounts, promising a night of exceptional music and camaraderie. The convergence of international talent with local vibrancy underscores the universal language of music and the power it holds to unite people across borders and cultures.
