The Friday of 9th August, was a night to remember as Kampala revelers were treated to an avalanche of jokes and humor as some of the best comedians in Africa shared a single stage. The show dubbed “Africa Laughs” was held at imperial Royale hotel.
The composition of Basket mouth, Africa’s leading comedian featuring Eric Omondi from Kenya, Carl Joshua Ncube from Zimbabwe, Daliso from Malawi and Uganda’s best comedians Ann Kansiime, Patrick Idringi Salvador, Mendo M7 left Ugandans with cracked ribs and stress free because of the hilarious jokes these guys were throwing at them. Alongside was the host of the show Mc Mich Egwang.
The auditorium was packed to full capacity doubling the previous event which had Klint de Drunk, the continental comedian from Nigeria featuring Pablo. Our own also did their best, however, regulars to their shows didn’t find them that much pleasing because it was generally recycling of the day to day jokes. This was mostly with Alex Muhangi. You had to be his girlfriend or relative to laugh at his sermon-like jokes.
This was followed by our comical demeanor of a rude villagish mukiiga, Anna Kansiime who put the crowd in the moods of real comedy and fun. Then, the Zimbabwean Carl Joshua caught up from this and along the way he confessed how Uganda Cranes is the best team in the whole world. And yes no doubt “we believe”. Mendo also tried with topical jokes.
Eric Omondi, a Kenyan native just served us with a buffet of jokes (Think of him as a corporate version of Afande Kerekere) as chics were mourning because they could not take it in any more. Perhaps the guy was the personality of the night.
After, Idringi Salvador also took us through the nursery rhymes and actually in the process invited his fiancée on to also act a part.
The serene stage was well lit for the Nigerian and continental comedian, Basket mouth who took us through the differences between whites and blacks, served as one of the cocktails, the guy had prepared for the night. The guy’s jokes came off as naturally as Omondi’s.
Not quite beneath the expectations, the simultaneous jokes were a little nasty and crude but for a show that ended at midnight, some bedroom jokes might just have been a good weekend dose.
