Galaxy FM, a popular urban youth Luganda station, has honoured songbird Sheebah Karungi for her record-breaking hit single “Nkwatako”.
According to management at the station, “Nkwatako” was the most requested song on their airwaves in 2016. It spent 39 weeks on their weekly countdown, hence emerging the number one song on the top 102 songs of the year countdown.
Sheebah’s joy was palpable as she was handed an accolade to mark the milestone, in what promises to be a new tradition at the station. She used the opportunity to extended her appreciation to the station for the continuous airplay and thanked her fans for the relentless support.

Speaking at the ceremony, Galaxy FM CEO Innocent Nahabwe revealed that artistes will start to be honoured by the station every year.
“Sheebah did exceptionally well last year and kinda pointed us to what we had needed to do all along—recognize the people that actually give us the ingredients,” he said. “One accolade goes to the artiste and the other remains in the studio and we will continue to add them on our wall of fame so that maybe even after 20 years we will still remember who was popular back then.”
Meanwhile, the 102-song countdown is said to be based on how popular the songs were that year depending on airplay and requests.
Sheebah’s “Nkwatako” was closely followed by Ziza Bafana’s “Tuli Majje” in terms of popularity.
