The recently concluded 7th edition of Blankets and Wine was peppered with unmatched fun, food and, well, fashion. And music, of course. It drew innumerable numbers of people as doors flung open at 1pm at Uganda Museum. The people dressed to the proverbial nines, lugging bucketfuls of drinks, food, fashionable mats, and picnic chairs, umbrellas to shelter them from the ruthless sun and their smartphones where they took selfies. The ladies clad in their large stunners, with their silky, light garments decked in their larger-than-life fashionable hats. And the guys never looked any different; they were smart and dapper. It looked like a fashionable extravaganza, on a keen inspection.
By 4pm, the Uganda Museum grounds had already registered quite a good number of folks who stepped out to have fun. And, indeed, they did. Emcee Deedan did a brisk job, something she has mastered over time ever since she took over the emceeing from Seanice Kacungira. Later in the evening, musical performances kicked off with Charmat who imported his Congolese musical prowess and strummed the evening away. Hands would be clapped at his performance. Brian Mugyenyi blew everyone off with his sax as he blew the blissful evening away. Ruyonga, later on, walked up the stage and literally stole the show with his impeccable rapping. He has his iconic entrance on the stage. He announces himself with a freestyle oozing of rhymes and he wasn’t any different on the day. Her performed songs from Tutuuse to Ija Nkuntware with Joe from Qwela.
Headlining act, Just A Band, from Kenya, sauntered up the stage later on. The crowd, now a little tipsy, clapped their hands thunderously, applauding them and folks that had their lyrics on their sleeves mumbled and shouted and hang onto every song they performed, especially their 2010 monster hit Ha-He. And the talented band, before they stepped off the stage, wasn’t just a band, it was more than a band. A talented band at that. After party was a party of its own as revelers drank and danced the night away. Blankets and Wine is sponsored by Tusker Malt Lager.
