The FumbAlive campaign is an initiative of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development together with Uganda National Alliance for Clean Cooking (UNACC) with support from the Global Alliance for Clean Cooking (GACC.) The three months campaign which has been running since early April aims to introduce and encourage the adoption and use of improved cookstoves (ICS) as a healthier and cheaper way to cook that is also environmentally friendly.

Over the last three months approximately 2 million people have been reached through various communication avenues and market activations across the country in West Nile; Western Uganda; Eastern; Acholi and the Central regions. During market activations, members of UNACC, improved cookstove manufacturers and suppliers had an opportunity to directly interact with the client audience to explain the benefits of clean cooking. Roadshows have been carried out in over 30 market areas with a focus on drawing crowds through edutainment and selling stoves at promotional prices to pique the interest of the audiences.

Even after the completion of the campaign at the end of July, the stoves will be available in most supermarkets and will be labeled with a Good Stove Better Cooking brand sticker for easy recognition. The campaign was partly informed by World Health Organisation (WHO) that indicated that exposure to cookstove smoke contributes to 13,000 premature deaths every year in Uganda.
