FUFA PETITONS ZAMBIA AFTER UGANDA CUBS’ 2-0 LOSS

Uganda-Cubs

By James Robert Kayindi

After the Cubs 2-0 loss to the Zambian young Chipolopolo, Uganda’s football governing body has petitioned CAF over the alleged use of over aged players by Zambia during last Friday’s game.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) thinks that Zambia did not fairly earn their 2-0 home advantage lead that they hold against the Uganda Cubs before the second leg that is due in two weeks’ time and has for that matter petitioned CAF alleging Zambia’s use of overage players in their 2-0 win over Uganda Cubs in the 2015 CAF U17 qualifiers first leg.The Chipolopolo scored through skippers Patson Daka and Edwin Chipile in the first and the second half respectively at the Nkoloma stadium, Lusaka Zambia to crown hosts as victors.

No specific players have been named but first half goal scorer and topflight player in Nchanga Rangers, Patson Daka is allegedly the number one culprit.

“It’s amazing how an U-17 player can play in an African top tier division. We have thus petitioned CAF and want Zambia to prove his age,” Kawowo reports from an anonymous source in FUFA.

U-17 head coach Matia Lule had previously echoed about age concerns as quoted by The Times of Zambia. “Why should I complain? This is talent development and all I can say is that we should be using eligible players or maybe and just maybe, the MRI scan used in Zambia is different from ours,” he said.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has also threatened to pull the same strike against Uganda alleging that Bashir Asiku, the Cubs’ star is also overage.

“As far as I am concerned all our players passed the MRI test and if Uganda thinks they are overage, they are free to take the players for a test and he should also conduct a test on their defender Asiku Bashir,” Lee Kawanu, a FAZ executive committee member in charge of youth football told The Times of Zambia. “Zambia played a highly tactical game and they deserved the victory over the Uganda Cubs and accusing our team of age cheating is just a scapegoat.”
