The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has launched the Women’s Elite League today at FUFA house in Mengo, Kampala during the weekly press conference which was attended by the federation’s president Eng. Moses Magogo, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, FUFA Women committee chairperson and Executive Committee member Madam Mariam Kaliga among other stake holders.
According to the federation, the league will be composed of eight teams and it will officially kick-off on Saturday 21st February, 2015. Excitedly speaking about the development, Eng. Moses Magogo acknowledged personalities that have worked their feet off to see this happen.
“A lot of planning and efforts have been put together to start the Women’s Elite league. I would like to applaud Madam Mariam Kaliga, Mr. Chris Kalibala, Ayub Khalifah and many other people who have contributed immensely towards women’s football”, reads a statement on the federation’s website.
“This project has helped us show the public and people attached to football that we were planning behind the scenes to make women’s football a success,” the president further said.
Mariam Kaliga, the FUFA Women committee chairperson also had comments to drop about the achievement.
“I would like to thank the stakeholders for taking up this programme that will help developing the game of women football in the country. It is through this league that better national women teams will be selected at all levels,” Kaliga remarked.
A small committee has been set up by the federation to run the league. The committee includes:
Darius Mugoye – Chairman,
Madam Mariam Kaliga – Vice Chairperson
Mwebe Ali – Secretary of the Committee
Members: Ayub Khalifah, Enfrance Nanjego, Harriet Nattabi and Annet Nakamya.
