Outspoken social critic and motivational speaker Frank Gashumba has questioned why many degree holders in Uganda are not financially successful, despite their education.

Speaking during his weekly appearance on Radio 4, Gashumba said it’s baffling that someone with a degree from a prestigious institution like Makerere University can still be struggling to make ends meet.
“If you have a degree from Makerere and you still use a taxi, you have to work very hard because you are poor,” Gashumba stated bluntly.
“How do you sit with 14 people who stopped in Senior Four when you have a degree? Education is meant to change your life. If you still eat one type of food, work very hard too.”
He further criticized Ugandans who still live modestly despite having gone through the education system, noting that some people’s fridges have never been full — a sign, in his view, of underachievement.
Gashumba encouraged citizens not to wait for handouts or political promises, especially as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.
“Don’t be deceived by politicians,” he urged. “Work for yourself.”
