Four people have been reported killed in Algeria during celebrations of the country’s qualification to the 2014 World Cup following a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso in Blida on Tuesday.
State radio ENRS said the incident occurred in the north-eastern city of Tolga on Tuesday night when thousands of jubilant supporters stormed the streets after the final whistle, causing a stampede in which the four were killed.
The source also said more than 20 people were injured in the rush and currently taking treatment in government hospitals.
Algeria captain Madgid Bougherra scored the lone goal of the encounter to help his side book place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The first leg ended 3-2 in favour of Burkina Faso.
