Former Uganda Cranes captain, Andrew Mwesigwa recently joined a new Vietnam V League side, Câu lạc bộ Hà Nội also commonly known as Hà Nội F.C on a two year deal. The development was confirmed by the former Cranes towering defender on Facebook.
“Done deal and now back to Asia .V League with Hanoi Fc 2016 season. New challenge but a familiar environment. Let me take this opportunity to thank God for the opportunity, my manager and the two clubs Fc Ordabasy for cooperating in sending my ITC in time,” reads part of the defender’s post.
The 31-year-old has been playing for Yenicami Ağdelen F.C in northern Cyprus, a club he also thanked for keeping him in shape for the past 5 months.
Mwesigwa has featured for several clubs in his footballing career both locally and international. The clubs include; Mbale Heroes F.C(Uganda), Sports Club Villa (Uganda), IBV (Iceland), Chongqing Lifan (China), Ordabasy (Kazakhstan) and lately Yenicami Ağdelen F.C (Northern Cyprus).
The former Cranes captain is yet to announce his retirement from national team duty despite being dropped since 2014 when Uganda failed to make it to the 2015 AFCON finals.
He however remains hopeful that a good run of form at his new side could seem him reclaim his spot in the Cranes squad.
At Câu lạc bộ bóng F.C, Mwesigwa will wear shirt No. 33 in a league where Uganda Cranes winger Moses Oloya also features for Becamex Dinh Doung while Geofrey ‘Baba’ Kizito is yet to be named in the Quang Nai team squad for the season since his failed to move to Malaga in January 2016.
