The Pearl of Africa has in the recent months seen the influx of ex-European stars who have come under different umbrellas even when they have a common goal. Among these are ex-Barcelona stars Patrick Kluivert and Luis Garcia who visited the country recently. And now former Barcelona and Tottenham star Edgar Davids is the latest in town after touching ground yesterday.
The Netherlands international is here on a two-day visit under the Rayco Garcia Foundation as part of the preparations to start up a state of the art soccer academy in Uganda.
“Edgar is excited to be here,” Rayco Garcia denotes. “He has heard of what Kluivert (Patrick) and Garcia (Luis) came for in Uganda and is eager to be part of the project.”
Nicknamed ‘Pitbull’ by Louis Van Gaal (Manchester United manager), Davids jetted in last night from Dubai to launch the Uganda Cranes-Barcelona match and the Rayco Garcia Football Academy.
Rayco Garcia is the mastermind of what is expected to be an epic encounter between Barcelona Legends and the Uganda Cranes come December, 2015 in an exhibition match that Davids is delighted to be part of.
