Flavia Tumusiime, a celebrated media personality, has announced her departure from the media industry to pursue a new career in technology and innovation.

The news, shared on Saturday evening, marks the end of her 21-year-long media career and the beginning of a new chapter in the tech industry.

After taking a year-long break from media, Flavia decided it was time to apply the skills she gained in broadcasting to a new field. Her choice? Technology, where she aims to thrive as a full-time developer.

I have decided to change my industry. I have been in media for 21 long years and there wasn’t anything else left to do. There wasn’t any ceiling to hit; I wasn’t going to be a manager of a radio station or build a TV from scratch…the next opportunity for me was tech.

Flavia has dedicated herself fully to this new path. Over the past year, she balanced housework with intense online coding courses. It was a challenging task, especially with her role as a mother, but Flavia remained determined.

“I would code through the night after the twins went to sleep, and I would get about four hours of sleep in the morning before repeating the cycle until I graduated,” she shared.

This journey, Flavia explains, was a “necessary career change.” She wanted to ensure that her knowledge of tech was thorough and practical, not just theoretical.

“I did not want to just be a tech consultant for vibes. I actually needed to know the content and understand exactly what I was talking about. Being a backend and front-end developer was important to me,” she said.
