Sperm can live for up to 72 hours, and eggs can live for up to 48 hours from the beginning of ovulation. This is why experts recommend having intercourse 33 days before anticipating ovulation, and continuing for two to three days afterwards. You need to have sex every one to two days in order to secure conception.
Other ways to know your best time for fertility include cervical mucus checking, which means checking to see if you have more stringy mucus, and checking your body temperature. Usually, your temperature should rise by 0.4-0.6 degrees fahrenheit within 36 hours of ovulating.
