Renowned Ugandan film producer, director, and actor, John Segawa, has publicly criticized media personality Douglas Lwanga for what he perceives as derogatory remarks towards Ugandan cinema.
In an online interview, Segawa condemned Lwanga’s comments, asserting that they belittled the artistic endeavors of Ugandan filmmakers.
“Imagine a host on national TV like NBS asking a stupid question. Instead of promoting, they are abusing, they are disrespecting Uganda works. How dare a presenter abuse the creative sector of Uganda, claiming that it has no potential of doing good art,” Segawa stated passionately.
Despite Segawa’s critique, it’s important to note that Douglas Lwanga is highly esteemed within Uganda’s media landscape, boasting a respected career spanning at least two decades.
John Segawa, on the other hand, is a prominent figure in Uganda’s film industry, with a significant portfolio of successful local productions including plays, movies, and dramas.
The clash between Segawa and Lwanga underscores differing perspectives within Uganda’s cultural scene, highlighting the importance of constructive dialogue in fostering appreciation for the country’s artistic endeavors.
