Fashion guru Sylvia Owori will appear in a Ugandan movie starring Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o dubbed Queen of Katwe.
Sylvia Owori with palpable joy shared the news saying: “Yes it is now official. I will be featuring in a movie as an extra. Queen of Katwe with Lupita Nyong’o. Yes, my dreams are valid.”
“Queen of Katwe” is based on the true story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi. The project is based on Tim Crothers’ 2011 ESPN The Magazine article and book “The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster.” From a slum in Uganda, Mutesi became a Woman Candidate Master after her performance at the World Chess Olympiad with the help of Robert Katende.
The movie will be shot both in Uganda and South Africa.
