fashionThe fourth Afrikan Fashion awards will begin with a lot of pomp compared to last year’s because they will cover the whole of East Africa.

Previously, the awards were a Ugandan affair but this year, they will include Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. According to the lead organiser, Audrey Kusiima, the awards will kick off with regional tours in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and finally in Uganda.

“We are introducing five [four] regional categories where we shall have to get two nominees from the participating countries,” she said.

The awards are expected to be launched early next month and will run for 13 weeks. They will also be aired on Record TV every Friday.

“We have lined up five judges: Sudeed Mohanty, Stella Atal and Giulio Molfese, but there will be weekly guest judges [too],” revealed Kusiima.

Founded in 2009 by Baraka A. Daud, the Afrikan Fashion awards is an annual event of African fashion creativity, where new labels and new collections are showcased. They also recognise and award the pioneers and gurus that have made a mark on the African fashion scene.

This year comes with eight new more categories from the previous fourteen last year, which include: Best Fashion TV – Kenya, Best Fashion TV – Tanzania and Best Fashion TV – Rwanda. The others are: Best Fashion Entrepreneur, Best Fashion photographer, Best Fashion Face of Rwanda, Best Fashion face of Tanzania and Best Fashion Brand.
