After a disappointing start with a 2-0 loss to Kenya in this year’s CECAFA senior challenge cup, the Uganda cranes really needed a ‘huge’ win to bounce back and this was achieved against Zanzibar who faced the wrath of the ‘deadly’ Farouk Miya in Awaasa International Stadium, Ethiopia.
Farouk Miya who had scored three goals in his last two outings with the Cranes team continued to shine against Zanzibar as he netted a brace. Miya gave the Cranes the lead after 10 minutes before he converted a penalty seven minutes later.
The Cranes continued to dominate the game through out the first half and got their 3rd goal through Erisa Sekisambu with just four minutes past the start of the second half before Ceaser Okhuti sealed the win in the 79th minute to send the team top of group B with three points and just goal difference separating them with second placed Kenya.
Uganda cranes will be in action again on Saturday 28th against Burundi.
We shall keep you posted.
